Work in Progress Petticoat Loose

Rigout Productions in association with A Little Room present a rehearsed reading of extracts from Petticoat Loose, a new play by Martina Collender. Petticoat Loose is the name given to a woman spirit who is said to haunt particular areas across the South of Ireland. The legend is of a strong woman, possibly misunderstood in her time, who many feared both when she lived and after her death. Sometimes referred to as having been a witch, she was supposedly banished to empty Bay Lough with a thimble. The lough is since associated with her spirit and her story. The superstitions surrounding her lend substance to the notion that the nature of a society maybe revealed in the popular traditions and folklore that its people choose to pass on and keep vibrant. The showcase itself will be a multimedia event utilising film, shadow puppetry, live music and theatre.
