Mailo Power

Mailo graduated from the Waterford Institute of Technology in 2004 with a National Diploma in Art & Technology. Then in 2005 graduated with a B.A.(Hons.) Degree in Art and Society and was recipient of A.I.B. Student of the Year for Humanities that year.

In 2007 she graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with an M.A. in Fine Art.

Mailo is a practicing artist. In addition she has extensive experience in the Culture & Tourism sector representing the Industry both at home and abroad. Together with her husband Stan Power, Mailo jointly owned and managed the Athenaeum House Hotel, Waterford from 2003 to October 2018.

Mailo is a founding member of Winterval and served as Chairperson of the Winterval Hospitality Committee from 2012 – 2017. With visitor numbers reaching up to half a million annually during the festival, Winterval works to bring much needed business to Waterford.

Mailo has previously served as: Chairperson of the Inaugural OCS Irish Paralympic Awards, Alumni Board Member of Waterford Institute of Technology, former President of Renua Ireland, National Council Member of the Irish Hotels Federation & Irish Hotel Federation National Marketing Committee Chairperson.

Mailo represents Culture & Tourism Sector which supports an estimated 205,000 jobs in Ireland through hotels, food outlets and visitor centers. It is one of Ireland’s most important sectors and has significant potential to play a further role in Ireland’s economic renewal going forward.

T.V. Honan  

Appointed: January 1995

He has a background in professional theatre and popular music and is an M.A. (Hons) in Arts and Heritage Management graduate.

T.V. Honan has been a member of The Arts Council, the Irish Government body for arts development. He has also been a member of the Cultural Affairs Committee at Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. He was a member of Waterford City Development Board at Waterford City Council. He was the founding Managing Director of Red Kettle Theatre Company, building the organisation from its regional roots to national recognition. He has acted as Guest Line Producer for Theatre Upstairs, touring to: Project Arts Centre, Garter Lane Arts Centre and Lyric Theatre, Belfast.

He has advised Local Authorities in various parts of Ireland and has been a member regional and national consultative fora on arts and related development issues. He holds an MA (Hons) in Arts and heritage Management.

T.V. Honan is currently Director of Waterford Spraoi International Street Arts Festival, Waterford, Ireland.

 


Maire Henry

Appointed: February 2013

Máire Henry is registered architect with the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and director of dhbArchitects Ltd. Her practice has won national and international awards for its work including awards from the RIAI and the World Festival of Architecture. Máire’s most recent project has been the urban regeneration of Waterford City including the outdoor performance space in the Apple Market area which has just won the best tourism and hospitality building at the annual Institute of Construction awards 2018. She led the development of the first school of Architecture outside Dublin in Waterford Institute of Technology and became the first Head of Department of Architecture  in 2005. She is a past board member of the European Association of Architectural Education.

Prior to returning to Ireland in 1996 she worked in Paris for 10 years with the internationally renowned Renzo Piano Building Workshop – a past Pritzker recipient.  

Máire is very active at a community and civic level. She has chaired and been a board member of Waterford Festival of Architecture since 2005 and is a member of the Board of the Viking Triangle and Waterford Civic Trust.

She is a past jury member of  RIAI awards and the assessment panel for the Architecture Bursary with the Arts Council.   Máire is also a peer panellist with the Arts Council for the period 2018-2023.

 


Pádraig Ó Gríofa

Appointed: May 2017

Pádraig has a lifetime of Theatre activity from acting, through Producer , production manager, set builder , the whole gambit. He has been involved in the building, manufacturing and service industry for forty years, as a Company owner, financial Director, HR and sales, with a wide skillset available to the board.

 


Councillor Adam Wyse

Appointed: May 2014

Adam was Elected first in 2014 and is the Councillor for Waterford City East. He is also the former Mayor 2016/2017. A Proud Ballygunner man Adam pursues his interests through the chairing of Red Star F.C where he assists two teams in junior league. Adam is 24 years old and a Graduate of WIT with a Bachelor of Business degree specializing in economics and finance. He is currently a Sales Executive with WLRFM and is Member of Waterford Airport Board of Directors, Adam brings his passion for assisting community and business and the importance of retaining and promoting our culture to his work with Garter Lane Arts Centre.
