Jo McCluskey is an artist and maker with a background in community arts engagement. Jo spent 3 years as a key member of CREATE, Tunbridge Wells, UK getting the local community involved in the arts through lantern workshops using her own bespoke designs. The annual CREATE Winter Lanterns parade brought 1000+ locals together showcasing their own creations and supporting the work of others. More locally Jo has facilitated art workshops for Cruinniú na nÓg, Waterford Ukrainian Art Group, Africa Day, Culture Night, SprÓg and Waterford Young Art Critics.
In this workshop you will learn how to build a willow lantern structure to take home and keep. Willow is a beautiful natural material that is both light and durable making it an ideal resource for lantern making. We will be using a specialist lantern paper to cover the fish / sea creatures and will decorate with vibrant tissue paper. Each structure will be fitted with lights which, as if by magic, bring the lanterns to life after dark.
