Workshop 1 : Frottage Collage

Creating an abstract image from texture rubbing. Exploring different techniques with drawing tools and materials.

  • Paper, Pencils, Crayons
  • Materials for rubbing:  Paper doilies, twine, bubble wrap, cardboard, sandpaper, mesh tape, etc. The environment i.e. walls, ground, fence, etc.

Workshop 2 : Still Life drawing & Collage

Exploring drawing techniques focusing on the breakdown of shape, tone, and perspective. Using collage elements* to enhance light tone and shade. 

*using frottage techniques from week 1 to create texture.

Workshop 3 : Monets Waterlily Study

A Paint study on Monets famous Water-Lilies painting. We will be painting outside “en plein air” like the abstract- impressionist painter Claude Monet.

Using the colour palette of blues, yellows and pinks and loose quick brush stroke techniques of the impressionist painters, we will create our own individual water lily pond.

Workshop 4 : Paper Sculpture

Create a 3d sculpture from paper.

  • Tools: pencil, Scissors, Card, glue sticks, coloured paper, patterned paper, newspaper etc.

Workshop 5 :  Blind Contour Drawing and Mapping

Exploring different ways of drawing. Blind drawing is where the artist draws the contour of the subject without looking at the page. Mapping is a drawing method where the artist creates an image by drawing the subject from the inside out, line by line.

Using different drawing tools such as pencil, water, ink and paint, we will explore blind drawing and mapping.
