New Ways of Looking

Taking the Old and Making it New

New Ways of Looking is a selection of works created over zoom by Garter Lane Arts Centre and secondary school students from The Mercy and Newtown School. 2021 will see the continuance of Garter Lane Arts Centre’s collaboration with Creative Ireland. The finished works will be displayed as an online exhibition on garterlane.ie.

This year’s exhibition is inspired by a selection of artworks from the Municipal Collection. Students explored both traditional and new methods such as charcoal, paintings, photography, screen-based works, installation, and sculpture. Exploring the collection remotely students selected their favourite works to recreate adding a modern twist to an old classic. This project is very unique as it took place entirely online. The students and trainers took part in live zoom classes to complete the Municipal Collection which can be viewed online.
