Garter Lane Courtyard
Free

Courtyard Sounds is a series of seven Friday evening musical events that are being held throughout the summer in the delightful covered courtyard at Garter Lane, between the hours of 5pm and 7pm.

Admission is absolutely free and it’s the ideal spot to have a refreshing drink, mingle and to unwind listening to original music right in the heart of the city centre.

Our first artist to launch Courtyard Sounds was the fabulous Krea, A.K.A. Karen Cowley from Wyvern Lingo, who provided us with a stunning performance to kick things off. The following Friday we had a stupendous gig from Clonakilty native, and drummer with The Kates, singer-songwriter Míde Houlihan. Followed by the phenomenal Paddy Dennehy on the 28th July and Donegal based legend George Houston on Spraoi weekend and then Waterford’s own Midnight Blind joining us on the 11th.

This Friday 25th August is sadly our final Courtyard Sounds session for the summer and we are welcoming Waterford based folk-rock band Bana Rua to the courtyard to entertain us. Bana Rua are a five piece band whose interests apparently include hup the steps, one more tune, and harmonizing each other’s sentences!

They formed in 2016 and were originally a trio performing an eclectic mix of folk and sea shanties, the group has since expanded to a quintet of multi-instrumentalists with a diverse range of influences from bluegrass to jazz fusion. After years of performing together, the band has turned its attention to creating an album of original material which draws from their melting pot of influences. The first single from this album, ‘Ermoupoli, or Similar‘ was released in May and the group is in the midst of recording a follow-up single for release later in the year.

We are honoured to be welcoming Bana Rua to the courtyard to entertain us and we look forward to seeing you there with us too.
