Lies We Tell is an Irish mystery thriller by director Lisa Mulcahy

The film presents a gripping psychological thriller centred around a young woman’s struggle to break free from manipulation.

Maud (portrayed by Agnes O’Casey), a vulnerable newly-orphaned heiress living in solitude within a remote Irish estate, finds herself entangled in a perilous battle against her charming, but treacherous, Uncle (played by David Wilmot) for both her inheritance and her very survival. With every threat and attack that she suffers, the young heiress’ resolve hardens as she fights for her birthright, no matter the cost.

In contrast to traditional period dramas, Lies We Tell offers a stripped-down, gritty portrayal of contemporary tensions. It unfolds as a tense and relentless struggle for survival rather than a tale of elegance and manners.

Alongside O’Casey and Wilmot, the cast includes Holly Sturton and Chris Walley.
The screenplay, penned by Elisabeth Gooch, is brought to life by Ruth Carter of Blue Ink Films with support from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.
