Presenting an exciting and engaging programme of theatre, music, dance, film, and visual arts, and providing a welcoming space for artists, audiences, and participants of all ages. The Centre spans two Georgian buildings of significant cultural heritage in heart of Waterford city. Garter Lane welcomes over 35,000 visitors annually.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Manager to lead our technical team and ensure the smooth, safe, and professional delivery of all events and activities at the Arts Centre.
The Technical Manager will oversee the planning and operation of technical services across our performance spaces, including sound, lighting, projection, staging, and rigging. They will work closely with visiting companies, artists, producers, and our in-house team to provide high-quality technical support, while maintaining the Centre’s equipment and facilities to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the technical team, including scheduling and supervising staff and freelancers.
- Ensure all performances, events, and hires are delivered safely and efficiently.
- Provide hands-on technical support in lighting, sound, AV, and stage management as required.
- Maintain and develop technical equipment, ensuring compliance with health & safety standards.
- Oversee risk assessments, safe systems of work, and compliance with relevant legislation.
- Support artistic projects with technical planning and creative input.
- Manage technical budgets, procurement, and maintenance schedules.
- Develop strong relationships with artists, companies, and clients, offering professional technical advice and solutions.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in technical theatre or live events, with strong skills in at least two of the following: lighting, sound, AV, rigging, or stage management.
- Knowledgeable about current health & safety regulations, including CDM and working at height.
- A confident leader with experience managing teams and budgets.
- Highly organised, flexible, and able to problem-solve under pressure.
- Committed to supporting a diverse programme of work and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment.
