Join us for a unique evening of dance.

A Scratch night is an opportunity for artists to put their ideas to the test in front of an audience and receive feedback. Four dance artists from around Ireland have been selected to present a short excerpt of their new work-in-progress. This will be a great evening for dance, circus and theatre lovers alike to see some of the latest work from Ireland’s up and coming makers. Please note that adult themes may be explored in the work.

The programme for the night is:

Phoebe Brown with ‘Swing 2.0’
Swing 2.0 is a ten-minute quartet experimenting with time, the power between the dancer and the score by taking on the idea of a pendulum swing. The piece aims to create a powerful, feminine embodiment of maths in motion. Swing 2.0 experiments with using a strict mathematic score and identifying how we can bring the subjectivity of the dancers to something so linear. Failure reveals their humanity as their movement technique becomes lost and frantic. The variations of speed in the sound challenge the power dynamic between the score and the dancer.

Hannah Scully and Safire Hikari with ‘When Lives Touch’
Observing and confronting the relationship with ones self, two dancers dwindle between becoming the mind, the closest friend, the mental illness, the lover, the memory…of the other. We invite you to witness two people interact, revealing the importance of real life connection.

Aneta Dortova with ‘Opacity’
Using percussive dance footwork, contemporary dance, and physical theatre techniques, this is an exploration of the concept of opacity through movement and narrative.

Anja Nicholson and Jonah McGreevy with ‘Bakers Grieve’
Bakers Grieve is a multidisciplinary doubles movement performance by circus artist Jonah McGreevy and Anja Nicholson. The piece blends and bends doubles acrobatics, contact and contemporary partnering, Quebradita, ballroom and social dance forms together, creating a highly original piece that is both dark, nostalgic and explosive.
