Swinging June, a film by Katie Honan

June, a formidable woman in her eighties, is desperate to dance at her granddaughter’s communion but is afraid her aging body will be a barrier. She fights for strength to swing on the big day with her best friend. June’s is an empowering story illustrating how dance can enhance the movement of people living with Parkinson’s.
This is the Waterford premiere of a short film Swinging June by Waterford writer Katie Honan. Produced by Four Quadrant Films, this fifteen-minute screening will be followed by a public interview with Katie exploring her process and learning as she adapted from theatre writing to scripting her first film.
Katie Honan is a Waterford writer working across theatre, film and radio. She has received support from Waterford City & County Council, Garter Lane Arts Centre, and The Arts Council. Her first play How To Fall Flat On Your Face, premiered at Garter Lane, won two Green Room Awards, and was subsequently staged at project Arts Centre. Her radio play HURL won at the RTÉ Radio 1 PJ O’Connor Radio Drama Awards. In 2025, Katie was a Six in the Attic Artist with Irish Theatre Institute. She joined Dublin Theatre Festival’s Slingshot residency with her latest play The Far Away Sun. It was awarded an Arts Council Project Award and recently premiered at Project Arts Centre during Dublin Fringe Festival 2026.
