Garter Lane Arts Centre Presents The Bloomsday Festival Waterford 2026!
The Bloomsday Festival is one of Ireland’s most vibrant and unique literary celebrations and is a commemoration and celebration of the life of Irish writer James Joyce.
This year we are thrilled to have screenings of Nora and Letter To Miss Weaver to celebrate this years Bloomsday Festival here in Waterfords Cultural Quarter.
Nora
Pat Murphy’s vivid historical drama focuses on the relationship between Nora Barnacle(Susan Lynch) and a young James Joyce (Ewan McGregor). After meeting in Dublin, they start a passionate romance and depart Ireland to start a life in Italy together. Their relationship is frequently tested by Joyce’s artistic frustrations and his suspicions of infidelity, but strong-willed Nora proves a source of both inspiration and stability amid the often heightened emotions. Over 25 years on from its initial release, Murphy’s provocative storytelling instincts and strikingly feminist perspective ensures Noraremains a captivatingand unique work.

Letter To Miss Weaver
“Letter to Miss Weaver” is based on the life of Lucia Joyce, when she became a patient at St Andrew’s Psychiatric Hospital, Northampton. After the death of her father, Miss Harriet Weaver, (her father’s executor) became the guardian of Lucia. Lucia Joyce spent over thirty years in St Andrew’s Hospital, where she died in 1982.
The poem was placed second in the Fingal “Travels with Joyce Competition”while also being a finalist at the O’Bheal Poetry Film Competition 2025 and the Waterford Film Festival 2025. Ger Duffy lives in Co. Waterford and she is an award winning playwright and poet.
