Composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Phil Christie has carved a singular path through Irish music—from his early work with O Emperor to the exploratory songcraft of The Bonk. For Imagine 2025, Christie presents a new commissioned performance that tests the limits of form and feeling: recursive rhythmic cells, spoken-sung phrases and lithe ensemble playing fold into songs that are both tightly structured and gloriously open to chance. Drawing on garage rock, jazz modalities and minimalist repetition, Christie’s music shimmers between pulse and poetry—adventurous, human and full of wit.
