The Japanese Film Festival Ireland returns for 2026 with a fantastic 3-film line-up at Garter Lane. Tue 28 April – Kokuho, Wed 29 April – The Curse and Thurs 30 April – Akira.

JFF is delighted to present The Curse as part of this year’s festival.

When Riko spots some odd, disturbing online posts from her Taiwanese friend Shufen, sheattempts to intervene. She’s shocked to discover her friend actually died inmysterious, violent circumstances several months earlier. Determined to find out what happened andwhy Shufen’s social media feeds are still active, Riko starts her own investigation. It isn’tlong before strange, supernatural events soon start plaguing Riko and those around her…

A playful homage to J-horror films such asRinguandJu-Onfrom director Kenichi Ugana(Love Will Tear Us Apart, JFF24), The Curse updates the classic formula for the socialmedia age. With some suitably gnarly scares and a darklyhumorous streak, this is one fansof Japanese horror cinema won’t want to miss.
