Oak gall ink making, drawing, and painting workshop with artist David Begley
This botanical ink making workshop begins with brief history of pigments – earth, mineral, insect, and plant. David demonstrates how to gather and prepare materials, and how to grind, bind, cook, and transform them into your own unique inks using ancient and contemporary recipes. Materials supplied vary on seasons and can include oak gall, alder cone, berries, cramp ball, burnt cork ink, bottle, jars, gum arabic, iron oxides and earths, vinegar, distilled water, rain water, natural pigments, and paper. Reed pens, dip pens and brushes are also supplied.
Materials supplied. Please bring a notebook, pestle and mortar, and apron.
This workshop is suitable for all levels, adults only, and will be of interest to artists, illustrators, writers, teachers, and calligraphers. Limited to ten places.
This workshop will take place in the Rehearsal Space in the Garter Lane Theatre Building.
