Jim Nolan directs Waterford Youth Arts in their summer production of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas.
Under Milk Wood is a surreal, impressionistic and playful account of twenty four hours in the life of a fictional Welsh village. We learn of the inhabitants’ dreams and desires, their loves and regrets.
First commissioned by the BBC as a radio play and described by Dylan Thomas as “a play for voices”, Under Milk Wood is an established classic with many different productions of this masterpiece produced since, with radio, stage and film adaptations.
For this production, Waterford Youth Arts’ ensemble of young actors aged 15 to 19 years is directed by playwright and theatre director Jim Nolan. Jim returns to Waterford Youth Arts, having directed a sold-out outdoor production for Wyse Park of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in 2021.
Other artists and collaborators for Under Milk Wood include set design by Ben Hennessy, movement direction by Natasha Everitt, music direction by Éadaoin Walsh, lighting design by Richard ‘Lippy’ Collins with stage manager Sinéad Hourigan.
This amateur production of Under Milk Wood (The Definitive Edition) is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
