High School Musical
At East High School, where Troy Bolton, the star basketball player, and Gabriella Montez, a shy but talented student, meet and form an unexpected bond over karaoke during a New Year’s Eve party. They discover a shared love for singing, which sets off a series of events that challenges the status quo at their school. Troy, who is used to focusing on basketball, is encouraged by Gabriella to audition for the school musical, despite pressure from his friends and the basketball team to focus on sports. Gabriella, meanwhile, also wants to participate, but she faces resistance from Sharpay the self-absorbed and theatre obsessed student who wants the lead role in the musical for herself. The show follows Troy and Gabriella as they navigate peer pressure, break out of their social cliques, and fight for their chance to be in the musical. As they begin to defy the expectations placed on them, they inspire others around them to follow their passions and be true to themselves. The themes of High School Musical include the importance of staying true to who you are, the value of friendship, and breaking out of stereotypical high school . It’s full of catchy songs like “Start of Something New,” “We’re All in This Together,” and “Breaking Free,” which became instant anthems for fans of the musical/film.
