In February our Arts Council supported Artists in residence will be announced and we can’t wait to tell you, all will be revealed soon!

The Studio building refurb/repurpose project has begun in earnest.

We are thrilled to see this much needed work begin and we look forward to bringing you updates. So far, walls are coming down, floors are going in and there’s a lot of dust, but its very exciting as we are eventually going to see the creation of a whole new suite of studio spaces in the heart of Waterford. These spaces will co-exist with our already flourishing, Dance Studio, Visual Arts Studios, A Little Room Theatre Development Centre, and Children’s Room/Workshop space. The project is funded by The Department of TCAGSM and Waterford City & County Council. We are documenting the project as we go, and we look forward to showing you the Before and After. Garter Lane, No.5 O’Connell St, the city’s Arts Centre, was first opened in 1984 by actor Niall Tobín. The building has been the city’s dedicated home of development, practise, nurturing and experimentation and exposition for individual artists and organisations alike over its 30 + year arts history. It has served the artistic community very well in that time, and now we are putting something back into this incredible resource. To name but some of the well-known artistic energies that have been housed here at some point on their development journey: Stage Fright, Red Kettle Theatre Co, Spraoi, Traces Dance Ensemble, Waterford Youth Arts, little Red Kettle, Big Colourdee Creative Stuff, and many, many more have passed through this building and have created many memories here, we look forward to seeing new and old alike, do it all again in the coming years…. Stand by more to come.
